FTP service to be discontinued (Helix)
Date: 14 August 2007From: Helix Systems Staff (staff@helix.nih.gov)
The FTP (File Transfer Protocol) service on the Helix Systems will be terminated on 17 Sep 2007 due to security issues. There are several other alternatives for file transfer to and from Helix, Nimbus and Biowulf, which use password encryption. Secure methods include WinSCP (Windows), Fugu (Macs) and scp (Unix). Details of file transfer options are at http://helix.nih.gov/new_users/transfer.html Users who have been transferring files through a web browser will no longer be able to do so, as this method is inherently insecure. See the webpage above for details. Please contact staff@helix.nih.gov with any questions or concerns.
