KET Launches FastForward--an Online Educational Service Free to Kentuckians

Kentucky Educational TelevisionKentucky Educational Television (KET) recently launched FastForward, an online educational service that provides on-demand access to lifelong learnings videos on GED and pre-GED preparation, workplace and life skills. KET is offering the service for free and with instant access to Kentucky residents.

The “GED Connection” series helps people prepare for all five subjects on the GED exam, with special attention to the calculator used on the exam, the essay, special answer formats and tips for the test day. Teachers and experts in each field not only cover the skills needed for the tests, but also explain how the skills are important in everyday life and work. The “Pre-GED” series covers the reading, writing, math, science and social studies skills.

In addition, FastForward provides KET’s “Workplace Essential Skills” series, which helps jobseekers find and retain employment; and the program “TV411,” which covers important life skills, such as lessons on parenting, money matters and health. TV411 features actors, writers, sport figures and everyday people providing insight on making one’s life easier and more successful.

“These programs provide practical and important information that has already benefited more than one million people worldwide,” said Nancy Carpenter, KET director of education.

More is available about the service at: www.fastforwardky.com.

APTS Congratulates FCC Commissioner Adelstein on Being Named RUS Administrator

FCC Commissioner Jonathan AdelsteinAPTS extended its congratulations to FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, who the White House named to serve as Administrator for the Rural Utilities Service at the U. S. Department of Agriculture.

“Commissioner Adelstein has been a remarkable public servant for more than two decades,” said APTS President and CEO Larry Sidman. “From his outstanding performance as a staff member in the United States Senate through his distinguished tenure as an FCC Commissioner, he has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to bringing the benefits of revolutionary digital technology to rural America and unserved and underserved communities.  He is the perfect choice to lead the RUS at a time when it has enhanced responsibilities and, at last, meaningful funding, to help make the dream of ubiquitous broadband penetration a reality.”

Sidman concluded: “Public broadcasting always will be indebted to Commissioner Adelstein for championing the cause of carriage of educational, noncommercial programming by multichannel video programming distributors. On a personal and professional level, I wish him continued success in his new position.”
