Major Activities for the week ending March 13, 2009

Members of the Georgia Regional Office participated in the WSB-TV/Georgia Department of Labor Career Expo on March 11, which was expected to draw 15,000.  The Regional Administrator and key staff provided an update on ARRA in a workshop titled, "What does the ARRA do for me"? Next week DOL will issue Notices of Obligation and Guidance for the Indian and Native American Youth Program component of the ARRA.
On March 12th, ETA conducted a briefing for the Senate Finance Committee on Unemployment Insurance provisions in the ARRA. DOL will issue the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) guidance letter, extending the WOTC to cover unemployed veterans and disconnected youth.
On March 13th, ARRA leadership  briefed the Senate Appropriations Committee staff on ARRA implementation. Next week the Secretary will submit to OMB her plan for DOL usage of ARRA Administrative Funds.
ARRA leadership  addressed state czars for ARRA implementation e at the White House. Next week DOL will issue Notices of Obligation  to the states for WIA Adult, Dislocated Worker, Youth, Wagner-Peyser, and Senior Community Service Employment Program Planning funds, notifying them that the funds are available and ready to be obligated by the states.
