U.S. House Meetings

A Comprehensive Listing of Committee Meetings

Held by the U.S. House of Representatives, 1985 to the present

Background | Meetings Lists By Congress | Search Daily Digests | Hearings on the Web

This set of pages has its genesis in the U.S. Senate Bibliographies that became a web resource in 1997.  In 1999 the Senate Bibliographies began to include comprehensive annual files recording digest notices of Senate and Joint committee meetings.  The goal of these pages is to provide complementary coverage of House committee meetings.

These annual files provide browsable compilations of all House committee meetings reported in the Congressional Record's Daily Digest.

Also available is the U.S. Congressional Committee Meetings Index, developed at the NCSU Libraries in 2003.  You may use it to search all committee meeting records from both the House and Senate, 1985 to present.

The data contained in these pages is drawn from the electronic version of the digests available from the Library of Congress' Thomas site.

Search Daily Digests

The Congressional Record's Daily Digest sections contain brief summaries of meetings held by Congressional committees.  Annual browsable files containing these committee meeting descriptions for the House are available from links on the Meetings Lists By Congress section.

You may also search a database containing records of the meeting summaries listed in the Daily Digests through the U.S. Congressional Committee Meetings Index developed that the NCSU Libraries.   The background of this product is contained in an About this Index page.

Find Hearings on the Web

Since 1997 more Hearings have become available on the Internet.  These three sources provide links to electronic Hearings.

A House web server offers links to the transcripts of many House hearings held since 1997.

The Catalog of U.S. Government Publications provides links to a number of Congressional hearings beginning with the 105th Congress (1997 to present).

A guide maintained at the University of Michigan's Documents Center, Congressional Hearings on the Web "attempts to document [electronic] free sources of Congressional hearings available to the public without cost."  References to some hearings identified here date back to 1995.  More House hearings are available than are those from the Senate.
