State Environmental Officials Schedule Public Comment Period/Public Hearing on Economic Recovery Public Water Supply Projects

State environmental health officials have announced a comment period beginning today and running through April 7 to gather public comments on the draft plan for distribution of money from the state’s allocation for public water supply infrastructure projects. A public hearing has been scheduled for April 3 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 1a224 at 2728 Capital Blvd. in Raleigh.

North Carolina to receive $58 million for energy efficiency and conservation

Yesterday the federal government announced $3.2 billion in funding for local energy efficiency improvements through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. North Carolina is set to receive $58,050,300 of these funds for state, county and city efforts.

Gov. Perdue Announces $56 Million for National Guard Facility

Gov. Bev Perdue announced today that work will begin shortly on a $56 million new North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters facility that will also house offices of the state Division of Emergency Management, the State Highway Patrol and the Department of Transportation in Raleigh. The project, which is expected to create up to 4,200 jobs, will be open to bids next week with work to start as soon as early summer and to be finished within two years. About $41.5 million in federal funding for the facility was included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

First Economic Recovery Transportation Contracts Awarded

Gov. Bev Perdue announced today that work will begin in April on the state’s first nine highway and bridge projects funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The contracts total $36.3 million and were awarded today by Transportation Secretary Gene Conti to the lowest respective bidders, as required by state law.

North Carolina Receives $208 Million for Weatherization and Energy Efficiency Grants

The White House today announced nearly $8 billion in funding for weatherization and energy efficiency as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. North Carolina will receive $131,954,536 for weatherization and $75,989,000 for the state energy program.

Public Hearing About Economic Recovery Wastewater Projects Scheduled

State environmental officials have scheduled a public hearing for March 17 to gather public comments on the draft plan for distribution of money from the state’s application for nearly $71 million for wastewater projects from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

North Carolina will receive over $56 million for crime prevention

The President and Attorney General today announced funding allocations to the states for state and local law enforcement assistance through the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program as part of the federal recovery act. North Carolina state and local governments will receive over $56 million. State government will receive $34,491,558 and 216 different municipal and county governments will receive $21,853,798.

State Receives $336 Million in Medicaid Funds from the Federal Recovery Act

Thursday, the State of North Carolina received an additional $336 million in federal funds for the Medicaid Program from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). These funds will assist North Carolina in addressing the budget shortfall for the current fiscal year.

Gov. Perdue Launches NCRecovery.gov

Gov. Bev Perdue today launched www.NCRecovery.gov, a guide to services of the newly created Office of Economic Recovery & Investment. NCRecovery.gov will let visitors track federal recovery funds in North Carolina, as well as learn about local contract and grant opportunities.
