U.S. Labor Department announces release of nearly $207 million in unemployment insurance modernization incentive funds to New Jersey

New Jersey is 1st state to be certified for funds under Recovery Act
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the release of $206,823,364 in unemployment insurance (UI) modernization incentive funds to the state of New Jersey. New Jersey qualified for the funds available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) by making state unemployment benefits available to part time workers, extending benefits for UI beneficiaries in training and allowing workers to use their more recent earnings to qualify for benefits. New Jersey's approved application will be posted at the department's Employment and Training Administration Web site.

Director Bement, Jr., discusses how NSF intends to implement the ARRA

In his remarks, Dr. Bement said that NSF's portion of the ARRA ($3 billion) is "sorely needed to ensure that America remains a leader in science and engineering research and education. That investment of 3 billion dollars will have an immediate impact on investigators, post-docs, graduate and undergraduate students, and teachers throughout the nation. Vice President Biden Announces $250 Recovery Payments to Go to Social Security and SSI Beneficiaries in May

Vice President Joe Biden and Michael J. Astrue, Commissioner of Social Security, announced today that the federal government will send out $250 economic recovery payments to people who receive Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits beginning in early May 2009 and continuing throughout the month.

Obama Administration Announces $3.2 Billion in Funding for Local Energy Efficiency Improvements

Block Grants to Support Jobs, Cut Energy Bills, and Increase Energy Independence
WASHINGTON - Vice President Joe Biden and Energy Secretary Steven Chu today announced plans to invest $3.2 billion in energy efficiency and conservation projects in U.S. cities, counties, states, territories, and Native American tribes. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program, funded by President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will provide formula grants for projects that reduce total energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and improve energy efficiency nationwide.

Department of Energy Inspector General Issues ARRA Special Report

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Inspector General has issued a report that provides “lessons learned” and suggests approaches to reduce the risk associated with managing the unprecedented levels of Recovery Act funding. The report identifies specific risks based on past reviews, suggests actions for Recovery Act planning and program execution, describes DOE’s initial efforts to identify and develop strategies to achieve objectives, and outlines the Office of Inspector General’s risk-based approach to oversight.
