As the House-Senate conference committee on education reform reconvenes today, I want to thank the members for their commitment to delivering a final education bill to President Bush in the weeks to come. Chairman Boehner, Rep. Miller, Chairman Kennedy and Sen. Gregg have all pledged their support for a speedy resolution to this conference, and I applaud their commitment to creating meaningful change in classrooms beginning next fall.

We will work together as they continue with the conference to craft a final bill that will fulfill President Bush's promise to bring accountability, flexibility and local control, choice and research-based solutions to America's schools. By focusing on creating flexible programs that put scientific evidence and accountability for results first, while offering parents information and options, the conference committee will help to change our education system so that no child will be left behind.
