Dear Mrs. Snow:
In a letter from Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Kerri L. Briggs dated February 28, 2008, States were required to meet four basic requirements for science assessments for the 2007-08 school year. Specifically, each State was required to: (1) have approved content standards in science; (2) administer a regular and alternate science assessment in each of three grade spans; (3) include all students in those assessments; and (4) report the results of the regular and alternate science assessments on State, district, and school report cards.
Montana's response has satisfied this requirement and, as a result, Montana has met the four basic requirements for science assessments for the 2007-08 school year. In order to be fully approved for science, Montana must complete the peer review process by submitting all required evidence. If Montana is not scheduled for peer review in October 2008, you must plan to submit evidence for the March 2009 peer review.
