NASBE Leadership Database A Deep Resource for Education Professionals
Alexandria, Virginia—A new website dedicated to improving the leadership of schools has been launched by the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE). The site, www.nasbe.org/leadership, is an invaluable tool for those interested in preparing and promoting successful school leaders who are in the vanguard of public school reform and raising student achievement. The website is part of NASBE’s Leadership Initiative, a decade long project whose overarching goal is to place quality leadership at the core of school reform.

Implementation of Report Recommendations Launched |
The State's Role in Improving Low-Performing Schools Through Restructuring
Grants have been awarded to the State Boards of Education in Illinois, Ohio, and West Virginia by NASBE to help develop a cohesive set of turnaround policies for those states’ lowest and chronically underperforming high schools. The $10,000 leadership grants are part of NASBE’s High School Redesign Initiative, which is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

NASBE is in the second year of its cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Adolescent and School Health to support states' efforts to promote healthy eating across the school campus. To help states build capacity and create policy, NASBE is piloting a needs assessment process based on the CDC Guide to Implementing the IOM Standards. Michigan and Mississippi are the first two states to receive small grants to pilot this needs assessment of competitive foods. They will bring together key stakeholders including state board of education members to:
