President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for 
Hispanic Americans; Meeting

AGENCY: President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for 
Hispanic Americans, ED.

ACTION: Notice of meeting of executive board.

SUMMARY: This notice sets forth the schedule and proposed agenda of a 
forthcoming meeting of the Executive Board of the President's Advisory 
Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans 
(Commission). Notice of this meeting is required under Section 10(a)(2) 
of the Federal Advisory Committee Act and is intended to notify the 
public of their opportunity to attend. Less than fifteen-day notice is 
given because of administrative misunderstandings regarding the 
Executive Board's meeting guidelines.

DATES AND TIMES: Friday, January 9, 1997, 9:00 a.m.-5:45 p.m. (est) and 
Saturday, January 10, 1997, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (est).

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The Commission was established under 
Executive Order 12900 (February 22, 1994) to provide the President and 
the Secretary of Education with advice on: (1) The progress of Hispanic 
Americans toward achievement of the National Goals and other standards 
of educational accomplishment; (2) the development, monitoring, and 
education for Hispanic Americans; (3)

ways to increase, State, county, private sector and community 
involvement in improving education; and (4) ways to expand and 
complement Federal education initiatives.
    The meeting is not a full Commission session. As an open meeting to 
the public, the two-day session will explore finalizing the Initiative 
workplan; begin to develop the agenda for the Spring Commission 
meeting; discuss the Inter-Departmental Council for Hispanic 
Educational Improvement; and develop the strategy for the Hispanic-
Serving Institution Information Campaign for the Federal Arena.
    Records are kept of all Commission proceedings and are available 
for public inspection at the Initiative, room 2115, 600 Independence 
Ave., SW., from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (est).
