Promoting the health and vitality of the communities in which we operate... it's not just the right thing to do; it's also the smart thing to do.

When we partner with host countries and local organizations to build a competitive workforce, foster favorable operating conditions and support sustainable systems, we generate long-term value not only for our assets but also for the communities in which we work and live.

Marathon and its business partners teamed up with the Government of Equatorial Guinea and health specialists to develop an innovative malaria control project on Bioko Island. In its first two years, the project succeeded in reducing malaria transmitting mosquitoes by 95 percent and the presence of malaria parasites in children by 44 percent. Currently in its fourth year, the project has improved on its initial success by reducing malaria transmitting mosquitoes by 99 percent and the presence of malaria parasites in children by 49 percent when compared to pre-program levels.
Marathon is working to combat one of America's worst public health crises in a nationwide methamphetamine awareness and prevention campaign. In partnership with state and local officials, Marathon has responded to communities' requests for help in efforts to rid their citizens of methamphetamine exposure and abuse. To date the community-driven presentation has reached 13,500 people in six states.
