Atlanta Private Fleets by Primary Activity

Profile of Motor-Vehicle Fleets in Atlanta 1994 reports the results of the first Energy Information Administration (EIA) survey of automobiles, trucks and buses operated by private companies and local government agencies. The 1994 survey, conducted in the Atlanta, Georgia area was designed to draw a profile of fleets (six or more vehicles) in a major metropolitan area. (Atlanta was the first Department of Energy designated "Clean City".) The Energy Policy Act (EPACT) of 1992 directed EIA to collect data that would be useful in assessing the market for vehicles powered by alternatives to motor gasoline and diesel fuel. These "alternative" fuels can include ethanol, methanol, natural gas, propane and electricity. This report is one of a series of alternative-fuel vehicle related data collections designed to fulfill this EPACT mandate.

Data were collected by telephone from fleet managers in private companies and local governments covering:

  • Number of Fleet Vehicles
  • Types of Fleet Vehicles
  • Use of Alternative-Fuels
  • Annual Miles Traveled
  • Garaging Methods
  • Fueling Methods for Conventional Fuels
  • Degree of Fleet Vehicle Leasing
