Revise and redesignate current ANS: ASME B18.18.2 - 20XX, Inspection and Quality Assurance for High-Volume Machine Assembly Fasteners

This Standard outlines a Quality Assurance Plan for internally and externally threaded fasteners and accessories or associated parts. Provisions are included for sampling plans, inspection frequencies, control procedures, and record keeping.
Included in this plan are fasteners such as those where a more detailed inspection would enhance mass assembly operation. The quality assurance plan for these fasteners relies primarily on increased final inspection rather than on documented in-process control.
This Standard will be used in conjunction with other accepted standards for product, testing, gaging, and material and, therefore, those provisions as well as packaging are not included herein.

This Standard covers the complete general and dimensional data for various types of slotted and recessed head tapping screws and metallic drive screws recognized as "American National Standard." Also included are appendices which provide specifications and instructions for protrusion gaging of flat countersunk head screws, across corners gaging of hex head screws, penetration and wobble gaging of recessed head screws, approximate hole sizes, wrench openings for hex head produts, means for determining effective grip lengths on screws, documentation for screw types and head types relegated to not-recommended or limited usage status, and formulas on which dimensional data are based. It shall be understood, however, that where questions arise concerning acceptance or products, the dimensions in the tables shall govern recalculation by formula.

This Standard covers chains with series of identical offset links in which the pins articulate inside the bushings and the rollers are free to turn on the bushings. Pins and bushings are fixed in their respective sidebar holes. In addition to press fits, other types of locks such as flats are sometimes used to prevent rotation of pins and bushings in their respective sidebar holes.

This Standard covers a type of chain made from drop forged steel parts that are heat treated and are proportioned for high strength and comparative light weight. The simple design of this typ of chain permits assembly or dismantling by hand. This chain is available in three regular types (Regular drop forged rivetless chain & X-type chain & Modified X-type rivetless chain) as illustrated and described. Numerous attachments are available to suit a wide variety of applications incuding trolley conveyor service.

This Standard is NOT intended to be submitted for consideration as an ISO or ISO/IEC JTC-1 Standard.
