The Annual Coal Report (ACR) provides annual data on coal production, prices, recoverable reserves, employment, productivity, productive capacity, consumption, and stocks. This is the 32nd annual report on U.S. coal production released by the Energy Information Administration and continues the series formerly included in the Minerals Yearbook published by the U.S. Bureau of Mines.

Highlights for 2007:

  • Coal production was 1,146.6 million short tons, a decline of 1.4 percent.
  • Total domestic consumption was 1,128.0 million short tons, an increase of 1.4 percent.
  • Total coal stocks at the end of the year were 192.8 million short tons, an increase of 3.1 percent.
  • Average open market price of coal was $26.20 per short ton, an increase of 4.1 percent
  • Productivity was 6.27 short tons per miner per hour, an increase of 0.1 percent.
