Monthly Natural Gas Production Report with data for December 2008

Data presented in the table below are monthly natural gas gross withdrawals estimated from data collected on the EIA-914 survey. Gross withdrawals are converted to marketed natural gas production which is reported on the EIA website in the Natural Gas Navigator, and in the Natural Gas Monthly and Annual reports. Marketed production is calculated by subtracting gas used for repressuring, quantities vented and flared, and nonhydrocarbon gases removed in treating or processing operations from gross withdrawals.

Lower 48 States production was unchanged from November to December. The Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico continues to recover (up 6 percent) from the hurricanes. Oklahoma production is up (3 percent) as a result of drilling activity in the Woodford Shale and gas processing plants coming back online. New Mexico (down 4 percent) and Wyoming (down 2 percent) are both down due to freezing weather and gas processing plants going offline.

All estimates, except as footnoted, are based on the adjusted ratio estimate method, which is explained in the Background and Methodology report. Readers are encouraged to review these reports to better understand all aspects of the EIA-914 survey. The Data Files contain initial and revised production estimates for each month (revisions are based on company resubmissions and late reports) and response rates by month.

R=Revised data. It is EIA-914's revision policy to revise the prior month's data for any change when the latest month's data is released. Earlier months are only revised when a current estimate differs by the amount specified in the Revision Policy.

Note: New Mexico EIA-914 gross withdrawals estimates now include CO2 production in the same manner as it is reported by the State of New Mexico. All associated EIA-914 Data Files have been updated.
Area estimates may not add to the Lower-48 estimate due to independent rounding.
