E-Government is an on-going effort to improve the management and services of the Federal government. The goals of E-Government are to use information technology to:
- Make it easy for citizens to obtain services and interact,
- Improve government efficiency and effectiveness, and
- Improve government's responsiveness to citizens.
Interior is the managing partner agency for two government-wide E-Government Initiatives, Recreation One-Stop and Geospatial One-Stop. Interior is also one
of four government-wide service providers for the E-Payroll initiative.
Recreation One-Stop
Provides a single point of access, user-friendly, web-based resource to citizens, offering information and access to government recreational sites. Recreation One-Stop goals include:
• Implementing interagency web portal for recreation data.
• Integrating campground/tour reservation systems.
• Defining recreation data standards ("RecML").
• Making data sharing operational, using RecML and web services.
• Developing migration strategies to replace/interface existing recreation- related systems, using the Federal Enterprise Architecture.
Geospatial One-Stop
Provides federal and state agencies with single-point of access to
map-related data and promotes coordination and alignment of geospatial data collection and maintenance among all levels
of government. Geospatial One-Stop goals include:
• Developing portal for seamless access to Geospatial information.
• Providing standards and models for geospatial data.
• Creating an interactive index to geospatial data holdings at federal and non-federal levels.
• Encouraging greater coordination among federal, state, and local agencies about existing and planned geospatial data collections.
