Research Project: Capacity Building in Intellectual Property Management and Technology Transfer in India Project Number: 0210-22310-002-97

Objective:
Building IPR and Technology Transfer capacity building in India as part of the U.S. Government and Government of India Joint Working Group (JWG), of which USDA/ARS and USAID is also a member. The JWG was formed as a platform for consideration of collaborative agricultural biotechnology activities. In the first meeting of the group, held in December 2004, it was decided that one of the joint activities would be the development of an intellectual property rights (IPR) capacity building program.

Approach:
Preparation of comprehensive paper on current status of IPR and technology transfer policy loaws impacting biotechnology in India. Development of a Worldwide Bibliography of IPR Technology Transfer Resources internships. Establishment of IP Management and Technology Transfer Programs at Public Institutions in India through interactive seminars and consultations. Human resources building for establishment of IP Management and Technology Transfer Cell/Office at Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Kerala Agricultural University (KAU).
