Research Project: Assessment of East Africa Hybrid Maize Expansion Project Number: 0210-22310-002-95

Objective:
To explore the potential to increase maize productivity among smallholder farmers in East Africa through strengthening the mechanism for private sector hybrid maize seed at a preliminary level of study that can be the basis for more rigorous future studies.

Approach:
The geographic target of this assessment is the East African seed market, with priority focus given to Kenya and Uganda. 1) Estimate potential value to smallholder farmers of hybrid maize. 2). Describe the current maize seed market. 3) Examine potential constraints to expansion of the hybrid maize market.
