On Dec. 22, the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council assembled for their last meeting of 2008 to take a group photo for the January issue of the Tribal Observer. VOLUNTARY BUY-OUT OFFER TO REDUCE WORK FORCE A SUCCESS Mt. Pleasant � On Nov. 5, the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council approved a motion to allow Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort (SECR) Administration to coordinate a voluntary buy-out offer for associates to reduce their workforce by 4.2 percent. On June 13, the SCIT Tribal Council joined the other twelve Michigan Tribes in meeting with Gov. Jennifer Granholm in Manistee. The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians hosted the event at the Little River Casino Conference Center. The meeting focused on Tribal issues relating to education, health care and environmental protection.

TRIBAL COUNCIL REMOVES MEMBER FROM OFFICE

CHIEF CANTU TESTIFIES BEFORE US HOUSE ON QUESTIONABLE LAND CLAIMS
On Feb. 6, Tribal Chief Fred Cantu testified to the U.S. House Natural Resources committee in support of tribal sovereignty and the protection of Saginaw Chippewa ancestral lands.
