Washington, DC — The Corporation for National and Community Service today awarded a $6 million grant to the National Association for Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) that the organization will use to continue to administer the payments for child care for approximately 1,800 eligible AmeriCorps members. NACCRRA has performed this function for AmeriCorps since 1994.
“Child care benefits are crucial to allowing nearly 2,000 AmeriCorps members to serve,” said David Eisner, CEO of the Corporation. “NACCRRA has the experience to negotiate rates for child care services, provide training to sponsors and to members, accept and process child care applications online through a web site, and generate reports useful for a more thorough understanding of how child care is used by our members.”
NACCRRA will also provide training and technical assistance as requested for members, grantees, and state service commissions. Child care benefits are available to full-time members of AmeriCorps serving with sponsors whose members are supported by AmeriCorps State and National Grants.
The Corporation for National and Community Service improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering, providing service opportunities for millions of Americans of all ages and backgrounds. Corporation programs include Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America. For more information, visit http://www.nationalservice.gov.
