ESI was hired to perform a timber cruise of approximately 3,000 acres of plantation and natural forest. Annually Rayonier sells 3,000 to 5,000 acres of timber from their Nassau and West Nassau Forests. In preparation, they need volume estimates for the standing pine, cypress, and hardwood timber present.

With guidance from Rayonier regarding sampling intensity, ESI staff installed 1,700 plots using a 20 BAF prism. At these plots, data on tree diameter (DBH), merchantable height, product classification, and site index estimates was collected.

Summer 2005 was especially hot and rainy. Staff routinely began work at 6am, worked in ankle-deep water, and dealt with robust insect populations. Rayonier was pleased with the product, and has since awarded two additional contracts of similar scope and intensity.
