This project started in November 2005 and involved the design and installation of 1.7 miles of new road through suburban and rural properties to connect US 17 (Main Street) with New Berlin Road. ESI performed a comprehensive assessment of protected tress and wetlands, and assisted with permitting of impacts to both resources.

Nearly 900 protected trees were identified in the field, and data on species and diameter at breast height (DBH-4.5’ above groundline) was recorded. This data was used in adjusting the roadway alignment, as well as in determining mitigation (both landscaping and direct financial payments), according to Jacksonville’s Landscaping and Tree Protection regulations. The property assessed was being acquired through eminent domain – as such, ESI staff coordinated access with 15 different landowners.
