Infrastructure/Transportation - Highlighted Project Experience

Eastern North Carolina Natural Gas Company - North Carolina Coastal Plain

Project Type: Seven-phase natural gas transmission and distribution system

This project is located in the North Carolina Coastal Plain and consists of approximately 500 miles of natural gas transmission and distribution line.

ESI was responsible for all environmental aspects of this multi-phase project; including wetland and stream delineation, GPS data collection, stream buffer determinations, Threatened and Endangered species habitat evaluations and surveys, cultural resource evaluations and surveys, agency coordination, and all environmental permitting. In addition to preparing environmental assessment documentation for the US Army Corps of Engineers and NC Division of Coastal Management, ESI prepared additional environmental documentation for several phases where additional considerations were required.

These include:

  • Environmental Assessments for the US Fish and Wildlife Service for crossings of the Roanoke River National Wildlife Refuge and the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge
  • Biological Assessment for the US Forest Service for a crossing of the Croatan National Forest
  • Seagrass Survey and Essential Fish Habitat Consultation for a crossing of the Currituck Sound
  • Underwater Archaeology Survey for the Currituck Sound crossing
  • US Army Corps of Engineers consultation regarding two crossings of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AICW)
  • Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) permitting for all coastal and estuarine crossings
