Forestry Division - Highlighted Project Experience

Cross Florida Greenway - Putnam County, Florida

Project Type: Timber Marking

The Cross Florida Greenway is located south of Palatka, Putnam County, Florida. The Greenway consists of stands of old-growth slash pine (Pinus elliottii var. elliottii) with some scattered longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) and loblolly pine (Pinus taeda). Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) was responsible for marking two separate tracts within the Greenway. The Division of Forestry named the projects: Canal South, consisting of 180 acres of natural pine and Stairstep, consisting of 106 acres of pine.

ESI selected and then marked timber to be cut during harvest. Basal area within the stands was reduced to 60-70 square feet per acre. ESI also determined the location of the logging ramps.
