Archaeology Division - Highlighted Project Experience

NOCATEE, ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL

Project Type: Phase I,II,III archaeological investigations

Project Description: ESI conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the 13,055-acre Nocatee property for The PARC Group. A total of 31 new archaeological sites were recorded and an additional five previously recorded sites were revisited during the course of investigations. Ten sites were recommended eligible for the National Register. Five will be preserved in place, while additional study at a sixth site was deemed sufficient to mitigate against adverse effects. In 2006, the 20-mile house site (8SJ53) was excavated revealing part of a structure believed to be an outbuilding associated with the original Spanish way-point between St. Augustine and Jacksonville.
