Grants to Develop Green Technology Go to 3 New England Companies

Three New England-based companies will share nearly $210,000 from EPA for the research and development of green technology. The companies are Active Spectrum, Inc. of Amherst, N.H., Fuss & O'Neill of Manchester, Conn. and Ion Signature Technology, Inc. of North Smithfield, R.I. The grants were issued under EPA’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.
Connecticut Chemical Company Faces Fine for Clean Air Violations

Cytec Industries faces a fine for alleged violations of the federal Clean Air Act at its plant in Wallingford, Conn., under an Administrative Civil Complaint issued by EPA. The chemical company may be subject to penalties totaling $437,204 for the violations.
Pilot Program Will Further Evaluate Lead Ammo Effects at Cape Cod Military Base

EPA has approved a second pilot program for the Massachusetts National Guard to further evaluate a lead bullet capture system on two additional small arms ranges, and has also extended the duration of the initial small arms range pilot project which began in August 2007. The pilot program is taking place at Camp Edwards, at the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR) in Bourne, Mass.
Oil Company Fined for Inadequate Spill Prevention Controls in New Hampshire

Inergy Propane, LLC will pay $157,500 for failing to adequately prepare and implement federally regulated oil spill prevention, control and countermeasure (SPCC) plans at four of their heating oil distribution facilities in New Hampshire.
Faulty Asbestos Removal at New Haven Property Results in Fine

EPA and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut have reached a settlement with Anderson-Wilcox Corp. and Cutting Edge Concepts II LLC, for alleged violations of the federal Clean Air Act due to improper removal and disposal of asbestos at a New Haven, Conn. property that underwent renovation in 2002. The settlement requires the companies to pay a fine of $300,000 for the violations.
