Briefly

Marc Ribaudo is currently Acting Chief of the Resource, Environmental, and Science Policy Branch of ERS's Resource and Rural Economics Division. His primary areas of expertise as an agricultural economist are water quality, and policy design for addressing agriculture-related environmental issues.

Current Projects

  • Markets for Ecosystem Services from Agriculture
  • Manure Management for Multi-Medial Environmental Improvement
  • Nonpoint Source Policy

Background

Marc has spent his entire professional career at ERS, beginning in 1983. Initial projects centered on the water quality benefits from soil conservation programs and the Conservation Reserve Program. Other issues he has studied include targeting conservation programs for water quality improvement, costs of reducing atrazine in water, costs of reducing nutrient loads to the Gulf of Mexico, design of nonpoint source control policies, environmental credit trading, costs of managing manure to reduce impacts on water quality, and the influence of environmental stringency on farm management decisions.

Education

B.S. in Natural Resource Management and M.S. in Agricultural and Resource Economics (University of Maine), Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics (Pennsylvania State University)

Professional Affiliations

American Agricultural Economics Association and Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association
