NORTH CAROLINA ARCHAEOLOGICAL PREDICTIVE MODEL

Project Type: GIS based archaeological predictive model

Project Description: ESI assisted in the development of a statewide GIS-based archaeological predictive model for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). Task 1 included the scanning and digitization of archaeological and historic maps, the development of a new MS Access™ site file database, and the compilation of an environmental information database for seven counties in the North Carolina Piedmont. Task 2 included using the collected data and statistical analysis to produce a locational probability model for the seven county area. Future tasks include the full development of models for all three North Carolina physiographic provinces.
