Forestry Division - Highlighted Project Experience

Florida Community College at Jacksonville - Duval County, Florida

Project Type: Forestry

The goal of this project was to prepare the property for follow-on construction, merchandise available timber, and leave the surrounding forest in a healthy and aesthetically pleasing condition.

Administrate an 87 acre timber sale, to include: flagging all wetland and boundary lines, ensure Jacksonville tree ordinance compliance, supervise timber bidding, and mark all trees to be harvested. The client received over $100,000 in revenue from the timber harvest, they had their construction site cleared of trees, and the overall health of their surrounding forest land was increased.

We were able to take the client's desire for a land clearing and integrate it with a properly administrated timber sale. This resulted in a much higher financial return to the client than would have resulted if they had allowed the timber harvest to be handled by the land clearing agent. The property was turned over to the college, ready for follow-on development before the groundbreaking ceremony. An additional obstacle that we overcame, was that the Jacksonville protected tree inventory was performed incorrectly prior to ESI's involvement. This threatened to halt work on the project. Our team quickly picked up this additional duty of properly identifying and flagging protected trees, allowing the timber sale to proceed.
