Project Type: Watershed Level Stream and Riparian Buffer Restoration

Environmental Services Inc. was selected to design, restore and construct a network of stream channels comprising an entire watershed on the Blue Creek Basin Stream Mitigation Bank property located near Hogansville, Georgia. The project provides for the restoration and rehabilitation of Blue Creek and a number of its primary tributaries. The project includes relocating the stream away from the toe-of-slope and forming a more natural stream pattern. A total of 37,213 linear feet of stream will be restored and sampled.

Seventeen locations within the Blue Creek Basin property and one reference station were monitored to establish a baseline description of the benthic macroinvertebrate and fish communities. Personnel conducting this sampling event are experienced in the methodologies set forth in the 2006 State of Georgia’s Macroinvertebrate Collection Protocol (GMCP) for wadeable streams: Aquatic Dip Net – 20 Jab Method (SOP GAEPD), laboratory sampling, identification, and enumeration. All sampling activities were conducted in adherence to ESI’s Quality Manual. Data evaluation was conducted as outlined by the GADNR-Wildlife Resources Division SOP Part II: Scoring Criteria for the Index of Biotic Integrity and the Index of Well Being to monitor fish communities in wadeable streams in the Piedmont Ecoregion of Georgia.
