Alumni of the AmeriCorps who identify themselves as such during the recruiting or financial aid process will be given special considerations in their financial aid packages. The College makes every effort, within Federal Title IV guidelines, to provide an award package in which AmeriCorps funds will replace loan or unmet need; it does not eliminate or reduce grants from Warren Wilson College. In fact, within Warren Wilson College, there is a cadre of service oriented students known as the Bonner Scholars who are recognized with an institutional scholarship and also receive a stipend for work/service during the summer of their junior year.
Warren Wilson College welcomes AmeriCorps alumni as kindred spirits who are already aware of the value of work and service to others.
Additional information
Warren Wilson College has maintained a tradition of Work, Community Service and Academic endeavor for more than 100 years. Our student body (currently just over 800) has served alongside AmeriCorps work teams in the region several times while providing more than 23,000 hours of other service to the community each year. Service to others has been a condition of graduation since 1970. Many of our students complete hundreds of hours of volunteer service, then graduate and enter service organizations such as the Peace Corps.
