"Operation Talon" is a law enforcement initiative led by USDA’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) and carried out in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies and State social service agencies across the country. This initiative matches law enforcement agencies’ felony fugitive files with the social service agencies’ food stamp recipient records. As a result, law enforcement officers are able to locate and apprehend fugitives who may also be illegally receiving benefits. As of September 30, 2000, “Operation Talon” has resulted in 6,733 arrests.
