Water And Riverine Systems Projects

Southern Piedmont Regional Curve Development
Project Type: USGS Gage station surveys of urban and rural streams

ESI has developed a preliminary Southern Piedmont Regional Curve in an effort to provide accurate stream dimension and bankfull predictions for Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina streams. These relationships will be used by natural channel designers to verify bankfull stage in ungaged watersheds and as an aid in designing channel dimension for Water And Riverine Systems projects. USGS gage stations and reference reach streams have been surveyed, in the same hydrophysiographic region, to assimilate and compare to the North Carolina Rural Piedmont Regional Curves published by the NC Water And Riverine Systems Institute at NCSU.

Environmental Services, Inc., also maintains and updates an extensive database of reference streams collected on both urban and rural streams. An assessment was conducted for each stream including a longitudinal profile, cross sections, pebble counts, valley morphology, stream classification, stream bank erosion estimates, channel stability assessment, stream channel evolution predictions, aquatic habitat, and fisheries assessment. Data has been collected from A, B, C, D, E, and G stream types, and were analyzed and maintained using RiverMorph software.
