The UGA Strong African American Families program now available to wider audience
For Terris Thomas participating in the seven-week Strong African American Families program was an opportunity to learn new ways to keep the lines of communication open with her 14-year-old daughter. It was also a way to bond with other families who also were the parents of teens.
Text of UGA's annual State of the University address, delivered Jan. 22 at the Chapel, can be seen here. A video rebroadcast is scheduled to air on University Cablevision Ch. 15 on Jan. 26 and 27 at 9 a.m.

Film: Coeurs / Private Fears in Public Places
The 7th Annual French Film Festival, sponsored by the Film Studies Program, the French American Cultural Exchange, UGA Cinematic Arts, and the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, continues Feb. 2. Each film in the festival is subtitled and projected in 35mm. The cost is $1 for students, $2 for all others for each screening. Winner of the Venice Film Festival’s Best Director and Best Actress awards (Laura Morante), Coeurs explores love and longing among a cluster of eccentric characters. Many of France’s top stars perform from the goofy to deeply melancholy, while a surreal snow blankets the quiet streets of Paris in this film. The screening will be Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. at the Tate Student Center Theater. For more information, call Richard Neupert at 706/542-2084.

January is National Radon Action Month
The UGA Radon Education Program in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences urges residents to take action by testing their homes for radon. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. Because radon is invisible and odorless, people tend to downplay the health effects and ignore the possibility of this silent killer in their home. Homes with elevated radon can be fixed and new homes can be built with radon-resistant techniques. Complimentary Radon test kits are available to homeowners at any Georgia Cooperative Extension Office. Call 800/ASK-UGA1 for more information.
