Forestry - Forest Stand Mapping and Database Construction

ESI utilizes current Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) hardware and software technologies for accurate field data collection and map production. These technologies allow us to adapt to different data requirements to meet the needs of the client or project specifications. We have experience using a number of different map projections, coordinate systems and associated datum and unit specifications.

As part of the Forest Management Division, our GIS group can provide our clients with a variety of inventory and interactive maps or databases to help landowners and land managers implement their management plans in an effective manner. ESI offers our clients a variety of mapping and modeling options. For example, ESI can prepare a standard landowner package for a specific parcel of land that would include true color and infrared aerials, historic aerials (if available), soils surveys, national wetland inventory and topographic maps. We also offer our clients interactive stand inventory and prescribed burn maps. The final product is an interactive resource map/database which allows queries to search stand information (acres, stand types, stand age, prescribed burn history, harvest-age, thinning-age, stand quality and management activities and timing), as well as visual representation of the actual stands. GIS maps and databases are prepared based upon the client needs and specific purposes and can be custom created to meet your specific goals.
