Water And Riverine Systems Projects

Unnamed Tributary to the Etowah River - Forsyth County, GA
Project Type: Water And Riverine Systems design, relocation, and construction

Construction was initiated in November 2001 for Priority Level II restoration of 500 feet of natural channel design of an unnamed tributary to the Etowah River, in Forsyth County, Georgia. The purpose of the proposed stream mitigation plan was to relocate, restore, stabilize, and construct approximately 400 feet of a degraded clay bed stream channel that had been diverted and channelized for gold mining activities in the early 1900’s. The stream was relocated to the abandoned channel and its gradient was adjusted, using a step-pool system, to the proper slope. ESI provided the restoration of the channel plan form, longitudinal profile and hydraulic dimension, construction management including pre-construction stake-out of the plan form, supervised and directed excavation and grading, and site clean-up after construction was completed. The project also included in-stream structure installation, construction of bankfull benches, streambank stabilization, riparian vegetation plantings, and establishment of permanent monumented cross-sections and as –built data for monitoring.
