“The great aim and end of all learning is service.”

—Ben Franklin

How You Can Make a Difference

Students all over America are making a difference in their communities through service-learning. From individual efforts to school-wide projects, they are learning inside and outside of the classroom, creating mentoring programs, improving the environment, and tackling other real-life community issues.

Service-learning projects can be sponsored by your school, an individual teacher, a club, or community group.

If you don’t have a service-learning project in your school, there are other ways you can start volunteering right now:

Scholarships & Recognition for Student Service

Students across the nation are meeting challenges in their communities, demonstrating compassion for others and offering service to those who need assistance. In addition to the many things you'll learn and the accomplishment, satisfaction and pride that you'll feel when you work in service to your community, there are also tangible rewards for your participation.

Spirit of Service Awards

Learn and Serve America and the Corporation for National and Community Service are committed to recognizing and celebrating outstanding leaders and practices in service-learning. The Spirit of Service Awards pay tribute to the most outstanding participants in each of the Corporation's programs, which also include Senior Corps and AmeriCorps. Learn more.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award

The President’s Volunteer Service Award was created to recognize the tens of millions of Americans who have made a sustained commitment to volunteer service. This Presidential recognition program honors Americans of all ages who contribute a significant amount of time to volunteer service. Learn more about the President's Volunteer Service Award
