The Phoenix Teaching Fellows program is a highly selective, innovative path to becoming a teacher and making a difference in Phoenix public schools. We focus on recruiting individuals from diverse backgrounds who will use their knowledge, experience, and records of achievement to positively change the lives of students in Phoenix.

We seek the most talented and accomplished among you to teach science. Neither prior coursework in education nor past teaching experience is required. Coursework and content knowledge of science is necessary, but a major is not required.



Benefits of Phoenix Teaching Fellows include:

• Full time position in one of Phoenix’s high-need classrooms if accepted
• Customized Master of Education and certification program that will be completed while teaching full time
• AmeriCorps Education Award ($4,725 grant) that may be used towards certification and Master’s coursework, or paying existing student loans
• Opportunities for student loan forbearance and forgiveness (undergrad and graduate) for individuals committing to teach math, science, and special education in high-need communities
• Network of talented, committed teachers working to make a greater difference with the students who have the greatest need
• Specialized, no-cost summer training that includes a student teaching component, during which Fellows receive hands-on training and coaching on effective teaching strategies; Fellows will also receive a transitional living stipend

Qualifications:
- Minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA
- Must have bachelor’s degree by June 1, 2009
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to pass an FBI background investigation
- Must not be a certified teacher or earning a degree in education
