Forestry - BMP Compliance Consultation

Many states have developed silvicultural Best Management Practices (BMP) in response to the Clean Water Act.  Best Management Practices emphasize the planning and management of forestry activities in ways that protect water quality. While originally conceived as voluntary, in many states these regulations are now viewed as the minimum standards necessary for protecting wetlands, water bodies, wildlife habitat and overall natural resources during forestry activities. ESI offers its clients expertise in monitoring silvicultural BMP compliance.

ESI is also experienced in conducting log quality audits and stand DBH distribution audits for timber processing firms (timber industry). Compliance audits for timber industry companies are an important part of business operations. Audits normally occur when the timber is graded at the company’s mills or at the stand site immediately following harvest.  Audits help companies monitor the product type and grading as it comes into the mill and is a way to ensure that the proper product mix and compensation is being achieved. DBH stand audits are a way to verify that inventory software is properly designed and properly used without over-estimation or under-estimation of stand inventory and volume projections.
