CAPULIN SNOW PLAY AREA CLOSED
ALBUQUERQUE, January 2, 2009 – The Capulin Snow Play area, located approximately 8 miles up the Sandia Crest National Scenic Byway (Highway 536), will be closed until the area receives sufficient amounts of snow. Warmer weather has created dangerous conditions with the melting of snow and ice, creating streams of water on the hill. Gates will be locked until further notice.
MAJOR CHANGES THIS SEASON
When Open, Snow Play Area will be unsupervised.
Participate at your own risk. Snow, weather, administrative needs, and road conditions may reduce the days and hours this area is available for use. Check with the Ranger Station for the status of the area: 281-3304.
The following are prohibited at Capulin:
Skis, sleds (with wood, metal or other hard materials), snowboards
Sliding out of the defined area
Careless, reckless sliding
Alcoholic beverages and glass containers
Rental equipment is not available at the Snow Play Area
Please note: Sliding, sledding and tubing are PROHIBITED at the following trailheads and slopes associated with these areas: Tree Springs, 10K Trailhead, and the hairpin curve on the Crest Hwy below Tree Springs. For more information, contact the Sandia Ranger District at 281-3304.
