Dinwiddie:

  1. Flatfoot Rd. and Old Storage Rd, 1000 acres plus, at least 3 homes damaged/lost, evacuations, 1 close call by a DOF dozer, Red Cross providing shelters
  2. Wells Rd., 100 ac +

Brunswick:

  1. Pocahontas Rd., large fire, 1 home lost

Chesapeake

  1. one home lost

Suffolk
- fire near Tidewater Community College closed I-664 for some time.

Essex:

  1. 5 fires going at same time

Hanover, Chesterfield, Henrico, James City, New Kent, Caroline, Spotsylvania

  1. very busy
  2. Have put in requests through SMA

R3
Louisa:

  1. Freshwater Creek, 400 acres, 80% contained, evacuations
  2. 9 or 10 other fires, a couple of which are larger in size

Nelson:

  1. multiple fires, 2 of which were in mountainous areas and had to go without resources for a while because everything was committed and these were the lowest priorities.
  2. R3 type 3 IMT will likely be deployed to help manage these incidents in the AM 02-11-08

Amherst

  1. multiple fires, one of which had to go unmanned for a while due to no resources.
  2. Assume that this is where the B&G crew was assigned

Orange
- this one received a lot of attention through the EOC, but no details from the DOF
Augusta:

  1. one significant fire, which may now be contained, many others

Many other counties with varying levels of activity.

  1. many fires, Camp Hideaway Rd – 1 home lost on 10 acre fire.

Pittsylvania

  1. major fire near Leesville Lake off Bybee Rd.

- significant fire, ultimately put in a request for help through the EOC

  1. at least 12 locally, largest is the Blackhorse Fire near Camp Virginia Jaycee.
  2. Blackhorse fire is mostly on National Forest land, 500 acres +, evacuation of 25 + homes, 460 Eastbound closed in Montvale area, Roanoke Airport closed – may be due to wind instead of smoke?.

Roanoke

  1. Lockhaven Drive, 75 acres+, I-81 S closed, evacuations
  2. One other fire in the Hollins Area
  3. Back Creek, Leftler Lane, unknown size
  4. Big Otter River, unknown size, may be in Bedford County

Floyd

  1. fire on Carroll line, 25 acres+, help from R6

Patrick

  1. several fires

  1. only reported fire activity of any significance, fire expected to be contained before morning

Federal
GW/Jeff National Forest

  1. Blackhorse fire – Bedford Co. have ordered a type 2 IMT to manage
  2. Have ordered a type 1 IMT to serve as Area Command for a total of three incidents plus other starts in western Virginia.
  3. Teams in place by the end of the day tomorrow 02-11-08

Notes

  1. VDOF Basic Fire training at New Kent beginning 02-11-08 has been postponed due to the fire activity
