The Department of Homeland Security participates in a number of events throughout the year. The Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) and the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) participate in events to reach out to the public and disseminate knowledge regarding new technologies that help homeland security officials better do their jobs to protect the homeland. The following events include participation from the Department Directorate for Science and Technology.

March 2009

Celebration of Teaching and Learning

Dates: March 6-7, 2009

Location: New York, N.Y.

Event Overview: The “World’s Fair of Education” is billed as the place where the best thinkers and practitioners come together to play a role in shaping the future of schools. This year’s event features expanded content which teachers, administrators, and policy makers from elementary, middle, and high school will find exciting offerings in science, math, technology, global awareness, english language learning, literacy, autism, and whole school issues. S&T University Programs Educational Summit

Dates: March 17-19, 2009

Location: Washington, D.C.

Event Overview: The Department S&T Directorate Office of University Programs presents “Partnerships for a Safer World” to showcase partnership and collaborations involving the Department of Homeland Security university-based Centers of Excellence. Global Security Asia

Dates: March 17-19, 2009

Location: Singapore

Event Overview: “Harnessing the Force of Science and Technology Against Evolving Threats in Homeland Security” Global Security Asia will deliver the world’s leading experts from such fields as Counter-IED, Critical Infrastructure Protection, CBRNE, Access Control, Personal Protection and Biometrics. International Wireless Communication Exposition (IWCE)

Dates: March 18-20, 2009

Location: New York, N.Y.

Event Overview: IWCE provides comprehensive programs on integrated communications systems technology with in-depth coverage of numerous vital topics. The event provides the applications and solutions needed in order to communicate anytime, anywhere. The S&T Command Control and Interoperability Division will showcase their latest state-of-the-art advances at this event. National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)

Dates: March 18-22, 2009

Location: New Orleans, La.

Event Overview: This conference is the premier event that brings together science and education leaders and experts with experts who are interested in personal and professional growth. Over twelve thousand educators are expected to be in attendance. S&T will highlight its own educational programs and discuss efforts to generate interest in science and mathematics. EMS Today

Dates: March 18-22, 2009

Location: Baltimore, Md.

Event Overview: The EMS Conference and Exposition presented in participation with the International Association of fire chiefs. S&T will be showcasing the latest in first-responder technology and will be offering a special vendor-only “Doing Business with S&T” seminar in conjunction with the event. Police Jury Association of Louisiana

Dates: March 19-21, 2009

Location: New Orleans, La.

Event Overview:  The Police Jury Association of Louisiana was created in 1924 to improve parish government in the State of Louisiana. The Association is headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and has a full-time staff charged with the responsibility of keeping state and national public officials informed of the activities and needs of the parish governing authorities. Industrial Fire World

IAFC Wildland/Urban Interface Conference

National Hurricane Conference

Dates: April 8-9, 2009

Event Overview: The primary goal of the National Hurricane Conference is to improve hurricane preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation in order to save lives and property in the United States and the tropical islands of the Caribbean and Pacific. In addition, the conference serves as a national forum for federal, state and local officials to exchange ideas and recommend new policies to improve Emergency Management. Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Expo

Dates: April 8-9, 2009

Location: Oaks, Pa.

Event Overview: A premier regional exposition aimed at one of the largest law enforcement audiences in the nation. Navy League Sea Air and Space

Dates: May 4-6, 2009

Mid-South Law Enforcement

IEEE International Conference on Technology and Homeland Security

Dates: May 11-12, 2009

Event Overview: The ninth annual IEEE International Conference on Technologies for Homeland Security will focus on novel and innovative technologies, which address some of the most pressing national security problems. CFED-West

NDIA, Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate Stakeholders Conference - East

Dates: May 18-21, 2009

Location: Washington, D.C.

Event Overview: This important event is presented by the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) with subject matter support provided by the Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) of the Department of Homeland Security. The conference goals include:

  • Presenting the S&T Directorate's organization, vision, and key initiatives;
  • Showcasing the key partnerships;
  • Getting input from S&T stakeholders on the future of the Directorate;
  • Explaining how to do business with the Department S&T research enterprise, and much more.
