Hi this is Mayor Adrian Fenty and we’re here at CCNV homeless shelter in Washington, DC. We’ve got hundreds of volunteers who’ve come out, with AmeriCorps, to make sure that Martin Luther King Day is a day where people work. And that is the best way to commemorate someone who really just tried to make sure that everyone had an equal opportunity in this country. And that certainly included our homeless neighbors here in the nation’s capitol. So, Happy Martin Luther King Day everyone.
Millicent Williams, I’m the executive director for ServeDC, the DC commission on national and community service. We’re so excited today. We have 150 projects registered, and over 15,000 volunteers working to help us to achieve our goals of going out to the community and making a meaningful difference to people that live here.
