Transformational Education: What is it?
Transformational Education is the process that Cooperative
Extension in Wisconsin uses to work with communities to tackle
complex issues in ways that result in system changes, positive
outcomes, stronger organizations and innovative policies that transform
communities in powerful and long-lasting ways. This is accomplished
by building trusting relationships with partners, bringing research-based
information to bear on the issues and increasing leadership capacity
in individuals and organizations that will result in improved quality
of life.
Transformational Education is
one of three major initiatives in Cooperative Extension, all
of which will contribute to "going
from good to great" (J. Collins, 2001). Multicultural
Awareness training will help us work more effectively in our
diverse and rapidly changing society, building trusting relationships
and engaging others to work with us on complex issues. Our efforts
in Building a Responsibility-based Culture encourage our
colleagues to take initiative, be creative and be more productive
in our work. Transformational Education relies on these
two initiatives to help us build our capacity to become our vision:
We
are Wisconsin’s educational network
for engaging people and their communities in positive change.
