Hannah Szenes, Jewish Parachutist
Between 1943 and 1945, a group of Jewish men and women from Palestine who had volunteered to join the British army parachuted into German-occupied Europe. Their mission was to organize resistance to the Germans and aid in the rescue of Allied personnel. Hannah Szenes has become one of the best-known of these parachutists.
Louise Bourgeois Exhibition
The Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden presents the first major survey since 1995 of the work of French-born artist and sculptor Louise Bourgeois, who has been associated with most of the avant-garde movements of the twentieth century, from surrealism to conceptual art.
