Professional Medical Opportunities

Peace Corps seeks physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants with independent practice experience for contract positions overseas as Peace Corps Medical Officers (PCMOs). PCMOs provide health care, education, and counseling to Peace Corps Volunteers and Trainees, and are responsible for implementing the Volunteer health care delivery system in the country of assignment.

Peace Corps recruits PCMOs continuously, with no closing dates. Requirements include: minimum of three years primary care experience and valid clinical license and national certification. Applicants with overseas work experience are given priority. Compensation is based on skill level and salary history. Currently, the majority of PCMOs are recruited and hired in the country of assignment.

Send application materials to the Peace Corps by commercial express mail, fax or electronically.

The Washington, D.C. headquarters office of Peace Corps also hires physicians and nurses to serve as employees, rather than contractors, in the headquarters office. Additionally, the Peace Corps hires physicians to serve in Africa. If you are interested in a direct hire position, view all Peace Corps jobs.
