Ask an Astrobiologist
"How canb you call Nibiru a hoax when your own IRAS detected it and you issued a press release in 1982 which made it to 8 major newspapers? "
  1. Question

Must extraterrestrial intelligent life be carbon-based, or can we expect different kinds of life for intelligence?

We don't know if all life must be carbon based like that on Earth, although most scientists think this is likely. Fortunately, this does not matter in the search for intelligent life. SETI programs look for evidence of technology, such as microwave signals. Such signals might be produced by forms of life that are beyond our current understanding.
