The NIJ Conference 2009 will be held June 15-17, 2009, in Arlington, Virginia. For more than a decade, this conference has brought together criminal justice scholars, policymakers, and practitioners at the local, state, and federal levels to share the most recent findings from research and technology.

March Issue of Community Policing Dispatch Available
The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) released the March issue of its monthly newsletter, Community Policing Dispatch. This issue features a brief overview of the COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP), a new grant program that will open to law enforcement agencies nationwide later this month. Other articles highlight one police department's approach to its community's foreclosure crisis, the role of mediation in police-citizen disputes, and the COPS Office Child Sexual Predator Program.

Applicant Training for Drug Free Communities Program Funding
Training sessions from the Drug Free Communities Support Program FY2009 Grant Application Workshops are now available for download. These materials assist applicants in responding to the FY2009 Drug Free Communities Support Program Request For Applications.

State and Local Law Enforcement Training Academies, 2006
This Bureau of Justice Statistics special report presents findings from the 2006 BJS Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies, updating the results of the initial census conducted in 2002. The latest census included 648 academies providing basic training during 2006. (NCJ 222987)

Geography and Public Safety Newsletter Available
The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services and the National Institute of Justice released the fourth issue of Geography and Public Safety, a quarterly newsletter. This issue examines how police can use geographic information systems and statistical analysis to create police districts that balance officer workloads and more effectively allocate resources.

Victim Impact Curriculum Released
The Office for Victims of Crime has launched the Victim Impact: Listen and Learn Curriculum. This online resource uses a victim-centered approach to help offenders understand the impact of crime on victims, take responsibility for their actions, and begin to make amends. It contains 13 training units that address crimes such as assault, drunk driving, domestic violence, homicide, and robbery.

Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice Annual Report 2008
This Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice (FACJJ) report addresses significant issues facing our nation's juvenile justice system. Primary among its concerns, FACJJ urges reauthorization of the JJDP Act. (NCJ 223723)
