SERFTF LogoA fugitive wanted by the Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and SCMPD Special Investigations Detective in Savannah, Georgia on January 12, 2009.

Malcolm Xavier Tartt, 18, was being sought on a warrant issued in Savannah, Georgia charging him with Aggravated Assault by pointing a shotgun and threatening to shoot the victim. The incident happened on November 4, 2008 in the 7000 block of Grant Street in Savannah, Georgia.

The case was referred to the U.S. Marshals Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force for assistance in locating and arresting this subject in December, 2008. Numerous leads were worked in the Savannah area by the Marshals’ Task Force in an attempt to find this subject. Information generated from these leads and a Crimestoppers tip placed him in the PinPoint area of Savannah. Surveillance was conducted on several duplexes on Ferguson Ave. The fugitive’s brother exited from Apartment A of 1014 Ferguson Ave and was detained for officer safety. Investigator’s used a key to open Apartment B and encountered a female who was then removed from the residence. The fugitive Tartt came around a corner in the residence and was immediately arrested without incident. Tartt was taken to the SCMPD Headquarters and then transported to the Chatham County Jail.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined.
