Lone Star Fugitive Task Force Arrests Two Murder Suspects
From Virginia Following Nationwide Manhunt |
|
San Antonio,
TX – The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) assisted by the SAPD
and the Windcrest Police Department arrested murder suspects Jason Betts
(DOB 02/10/1984) and Mithrellas Curtis (DOB 08/04/1985) this morning in San
Antonio/Windcrest area. The arrest and capture were based on leads developed
by the United States Marshals Service (USMS) sponsored Capital Area Regional
Fugitive Task Force, USMS personnel in Florida and LSFTF members in San
Antonio.
Betts and Curtis were apprehended at approximately 9:00 am this morning
after their stolen van was located at an apartment complex in San Antonio by
LSFTF members. A plain-clothed Deputy Marshal did a walk by of the van and
confirmed that a male matching the description of Betts was sleeping in the
van. A plan was made to make entry into the van and more personnel were
called in to assist. After dynamic entry was made in to the van, both Betts
and Curtis were found inside and apprehended without incident. They are
currently being interviewed by SAPD Homicide Detectives.
It was believed that earlier in the week the fugitive couple was in Florida.
An extensive manhunt ensued in Florida and USMS personnel were close on
their heels but they managed to escape Florida and head to Texas.
The United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas LaFayette
Collins said, “The LSFTF’s continued success at making our communities safer
and taking violent offenders of the streets is a direct result of our
relationship with our nationwide network of USMS Fugitive Task Forces as
well as with our relationships and extensive cooperation of the local
agencies assisting the USMS."
